The Narratives of God for Recovering Drugs Addict : A Qualitative Research on the Narratives of God in the Conversion Testimonies of the Recorvering Addicts in Indonesia

In living the life of recovery, the recovering addicts need to achieve the longest state of abstinence. One of the ways to achieve that is through spiritual transformation. The spiritual transformation is a process of conversion, where recovering addict encounter God in their lives and decided to follow through with the transformation. They have, however, different images of God in different stages of life. By reading and analyzing their narratives, we are going to look at the metaphorical God from the recovering addicts. This research, inspired by a research done by Srdjan Sremac on addiction and spiritual transformation, will conduct a qualitative research methodology in reading the testimonies in the form of the recovering addict narratives. In the narratives, we should be able to understand the meaning of conversion, what they need to prolong their abstinence period, and what kind of task do they have now for the society. In reading the transformation theologically, we are using the understanding of Faith, Hope, and Love by Emil Brunner and who God is for the recovering addict by using the metaphorical theology of Sallie McFague. By using the two theologians, we are going to find the models of God for the recovering addicts. The models of God, as in plural form, is different for the recovering addicts in different stages of life. As we discover the different models of God, the research is hoping to present the models of God for the use of rehabilitation programs in helping addicts to understand their conversion, the prolonging of abstinence period, and the recovering addict tasks in the society.

We get no good
By being ungenerous, even to a book,
And calculating profits-so much help
By so much reading. It is rather when
We gloriously forget ourselves, and plunge
Soul-forward, headlong, into a book's profound,
Impassioned for its beauty, and salt of truth-
'Tis then we get the right good from a book.
E.B. BROWNING - Aurora Leigh
